TIPS

Distractions From Food

Engage your mind in other things and you'll be surprised how you can actually forget about food!
Here's a great list to get you started that I got from this site. I've edited it from the original just a bit & will be adding to the list!

1. CLEAN YOUR ROOM
What I mean by cleaning your bedroom, is not simply shoving all your stuff under the bed. I mean, go through everything, order it, sort it, choose what you need, and put the rest into a box for a jumble sale. Go through your clothes and try everything on to see what fits, what you never wear, and decide what to keep, sell, or donate. Clean the windows, vacuum and change the bed linens. This should all take you time, which is exactly what you need.

2. BRUSH YOUR TEETH
Start brushing your teeth after every meal and after every snack. It takes up time, gives you nice fresh-smelling breath and clean teeth, and disguises the smell (or lack of the smell) of food. It also discourages you from eating because food and toothpaste taste doesn't mix nicely.

3. GET A HOBBY
Find a hobby... and become obsessed. Go through different things and find your perfect hobby - then keep it up. Start by remembering the things that used to give you joy as a kid. Liked mixing paint colors? Try an art class or just go buy paints, pastels, markers or spray paint. Liked biking? Check out a thrift shop for a an inexpensive used bike. Candle making? Loads of fun making your own scents and makes great gifts.
4. SURF FORUMS.  Take your obsessions to the internet! Find a forum of folks with your same interests and get engaged. There's more to you than dieting and weight loss. Hours will go by and you won't even realize that you haven't eaten.
5. EXERCISE
Light, yet continual exercise is probably best. You won't hate it if its light which means you'll be able to be consistent about it AND continue doing it for longer than a few weeks!  Go for long walks around your area, or rollerblade or cycle. Better yet, just commit to dancing through your favorite song. From beginning to end. Every day.

6. SHOP
If anything will distract you, shopping will. Make sure that you don't buy food though. Stay away from the Food Court and bring healthy snacks so you don't throw it all away on a binge. Currently broke? Fantasy shopping online, making wishlists/pinterst boards will take up time and cost $0.

7. SHOWER/BATH
Of course I'm not suggesting you don't already shower, but having a good long, hot shower will waste time, make you clean, and make you be with your naked body. If you normally shower - try a bath. Normally bathe? Try a shower. Subtle shifts people. Subtle shifts. Add oils to your bath water. A few sprays of your favorite perfume in your bath water is great. Bubble bath. Epsom salts. Light candles. Splurge on a plush bath sheet (fancy term for large towel). Usually bath at night - try it when you get home. Usually bath in the mornings? Try it right b4 bed.

8. PRIMP
Wanna kill even more time? Give yourself a manicure. Or a pedicure. A hot oil treatment for your hair. Mayo works great (don't eat it!). Try a new intricate hairstyle - like fancy braids. Curl your hair. Or flat iron your hair. Youtube has tons and tons of hair and makeup tutorials. Pick a movie character > youtube it > and you'll hv the same makeup look in minutes! Wear some fabulous white strips and make your teeth shiny bright white. There are very inexpensive face masks you can get at your local dollar store or pharmacy as well as exfoliating gloves and or creams. Nail polish, hair accessories and makeup. Beauty doesn't have to be expensive.

9. SLEEP
Get enough sleep. Sometimes tiredness and thirst* are mistaken for hunger. So get a good night's sleep. Try to stick to a schedule to queue your body and don't feel weird about taking a nap if you need to.
*Buy cute water bottles and mark fill lines with a sharpie. 8 oz/1 glass by 9am, 3 glasses by lunch, etc.
10. ADD YOURS!
Making your own list can help keep you focused. You know urself best, your list will likely be the most helpful.

11. REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE
And I don't mean move the vase from one side of the table to the other. Is your bed against the left side wall? Move it to the other side. Your rug placed horizontally on the floor? Try it vertically. Move your artwork to the bathroom. Organize your closet. Organize your jewelry.

12. VISION BOARD
OK so I know these are corny but filtering through a lot of magazines or sites online can really get you distracted. There are a hundred things you can theme a vision board after, your dream partner, the career you really want, the college you wanna go to, things you want to become an expert in, the clothes, body, circle of friends you'd love to have, places you want to travel to, cultures you want to learn more about....

13. BOOK OF QUESTIONS
Make your own book of questions or buy one of the many on the market then answer them at length in a journal you made, or one that you treated yourself to. Or have a dinner party and try them out on your friends!

14. HAVE A MOVIE MARATHON
Jane Austen fan? Try Pride & Prejudice A Latter Day Comedy, Clueless, Bridget Jones. Appreciate weirdness? Sunshine, Moon, Frailty, Fallen. Horror? Case 39, The Babadook, The Children.  Thriller? Misery, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Chloe. Twisty Movies?  Shattered (2016), Arlington Road, Derailed, Awake, Disclosure. When your wishes come true or Hey, I have superpowers? Limitless, Wanted, Jumper, Devil's Diary, The Words.  You get the idea... pick a theme and roll with it!

15. HAND-MADE GIFTS
Its never too early to think about Christmas presents. Start now. Make a list of the things each of your family members and friends are into. Now, can you think of a way to devise a hand-made gift for it?

15. TELL YOUR STORY
If a movie were being made of your life, who would play you? What would the storyline be?
